Art vlog: Do your art at your own pace and, when necessary, at your kitchen table
Share
Today, I wanna talk about the importance of doing things at your own pace and break down a little bit about "what your own pace" looks like for me. Annnd I'll tell you why some of my videos are actually recorded in my kitchen... It's not what you might think.
In a world obsessed with hustle culture and perfectly curated creative spaces, it’s easy to feel like you’re “doing it wrong” if your artistic process isn’t Instagram-worthy. But as I shared in my recent vlog — “Do your art at your own pace and, when necessary, work in your kitchen” — real creativity doesn’t always follow a perfect timeline or happen in the ideal environment.
Give Yourself Permission to Go Slow
As an indie artist, I often find myself battling the pressure to “keep up” — with trends, with other artists, even with my own self-imposed expectations. But one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned (and keep relearning) is that art thrives when you give it room to breathe.
Some days the songs flow. Other days, life gets in the way — and that’s okay.
Whether you’re writing music, painting, or crafting any kind of art, allow yourself to move at a pace that feels authentic. Consistency matters, yes — but so does honoring the natural rhythms of your creativity.
Your Creative Space Is Wherever You Are
In the vlog, I also touch on something very practical: sometimes you have to work wherever you can. For me, that occasionally means setting up in my kitchen — not because it’s glamorous, but because that’s the space that works in the moment.
Too many artists get hung up on needing a perfect studio before they start. The truth? Art can happen anywhere. Your kitchen table, your bedroom floor, a park bench — if the inspiration hits, follow it.
Embrace the Messy Process
Art isn’t linear. Neither is life. When you embrace the imperfect, often chaotic process of creating, you free yourself to experiment, to fail, to discover unexpected magic.
So here’s your permission slip:
👉 Create at your own pace.
👉 Use whatever space you have.
👉 Let go of the myth of perfection.
Your art — and your audience — will thank you for it.
