A little bit about me - Get to know Amy-Lynn Denham, visual and musical artist + writer
Share
Alright, y'all, I'm doing it... I'm trying a lifestyle blogging challenge for the first time in about 10 years. Now, I'll be honest, I am prepared to fail at this mission 😆 but hey, low expectations are easy to reach, am I right?
It's a
The blogging challenge I'm participating in
This 30-day blogging challenge comes from kerryjohnson.co.uk and I'll share the actual list below. I'm especially excited because it will force me to step a little outside my comfort zone and share things I might not normal think to share!
But before we dive into the nitty gritty of the content, there are some things you should know. And that's where this post comes in.
Who the hell am I and why am I blogging at all?
Well, if you stumbled here through Pinterest or some other search engine, you might not actually know anything about me at all. So, allow me to quickly introduce myself.
I'm Amy-Lynn Denham and I call myself a maker of worlds (mostly because I like to sound cool... I'm not sure if it's working). I'm a visual artist working mostly in watercolours and charcoals. A jewelry designer. A singer songwriting and fledgling music producer. And a fiction writer.

I also have a background in marketing so I know that every "business" needs a blog, even those weird creative ones like mine that are hard to pin down.
So, yes, I write in my blog to help bring attention to my website and my work, but I also write here because writing is an important outlet for me and because I believe some of our most meaningful moments in life are the ones where we connect. Maybe 4000 people will read this post. Maybe only one person will. 🤷🏻♀️ But any connection that can be made is a win in my book. 🩷
I'm also a person! (That sounded suspiciously AI of me 😆) What I mean is, I'm a whole person. I have a belief system, a personal history, goals, dreams, and fears, and all of that will play into my blog. I'll explore more about that lens in the next section of this post.
What lens will I be participating in the 30-day blog challenge through?
The best writers (in my opinion) add their own flavour and flair to what they do. Sure, that might not be entirely true for writers who are trying to report news and stuff, but when I'm talking about building connection through fiction and non-fiction, that's where the personal really does matter.

So, as I embark on this 30-day blogging challenge, I must say this: I will be writing from a feminist perspective, as a disabled person with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.
I will be writing from the perspective of someone who has experienced great emotional and mental traumas.
I am participating as someone who is exploring the meaning of her own life as a disabled person in a capitalist society.
I'm writing as a stepmom, a wife, a daughter, a sister, and a friend.
I am writing as someone who lived much of her life simultaneously labelled not enough and too much.
I bring with me the perspective of someone who is open and willing to try new things. Someone who has had to use her own body as an experimental ground for alternative health therapies, Western medicine, and traditional healing.
I intend to share a bit of all of that with you. In addition, I will write through the lens of someone who believes there is good and bad within us all, who follows a philosophically Toaist world view, and who is learning more about true worth and the limits of our personal power every day. I write as someone who questions the very fabric of our existence while trying to relish in its unique forms of pleasure, happiness, sadness, grief, hurt, and love so that I can soak up every bit of this human experience as possible.
10 random facts about me
Let's dive into the challenge... Here is day 1 "10 random facts about you"
This is already harder than I thought it would be 🤦🏻♀️ I'm having a hard time thinking of 10 random facts 😆
- I studied psychology.
- I graduated with distinction.
- I sometimes mix ketchup in with my mashed potatoes (call me crazy but that shit tastes like ketchup chips).
- When I have to fast from solid foods I drink a lot of different flavours of tea so I can feel like I'm still tasting stuff.
- The first CD I ever owned was TLC Crazy Sexy Cool (I think.. my memory is blurry)
- I secretly believe that every dog wants to be my dog.
- I have a delusion where I believe that I can make angry cats like me.
- That delusion has been with me for a long time because my mom told me that when I was little I once ran through the house with a kitten attached to my shoulders on my nightgown screaming, "It was a trap!"
- I love things made with tomatoes but I don't like to just eat tomatoes.
- I make up songs about everyday things to bring a little light into my life.
