Poem by Amy-Lynn Denham "Claimed the waves"
Share
I have claimed the waves that take me under.
Held the lightning.
Owned the thunder.
Sat alone
at night
to wonder
Will this ever change?
---
I have dreamed the dreams that turn to nightmares
with blurry lines and
blinding light glares.
Sat alone.
I might, but
I don't share
But, will this ever change?
---
I have lived with my shame, my guilt, my darkness
and found a strength only I can harness
For now I know the truth of all this
I will never change.
---
I am beauty wrapped in light and glory.
I am the pages of my own story.
Nothing should ever make me wonder
Will this every change?
For I am enough
even with each blunder.
No mistake can take
me under.
For now I see in truth lies wonder.
I will never change.
---
And yet I change each moment passed.
A single me could never last.
An effervescent life like gas
that floats above the breeze.
I can change with ease.
And I do, yet I do not.
I remain and yet, I'm caught.
Caught up in the winds of change
to shed the years of blame, shame, and pain.
Yes, I say that I have changed
and yet, I have remained.
