Fluffy, Chewy "Crazy Bread" Bites, Soft Breadstick Bites, Pizza Crust Recipe

This recipe takes your breadsticks to an entirely new level and you can use it for pizza crust, too. 😘🤌

Yes, I'm going to do that thing where people talk about the recipe before they share it. If you absolutely cannot wait and just want the details, go ahead and scroll down. But, I want to tell you why I chose this recipe and give you some tips for when you're making it yourself.

I had a craving for Little Caesar's Crazy Bread one day. And I took to the internet. I decided to track down the best copycat recipe I could find.

I like to be in control of the ingredients in my food. If you do, too, then home baking and cooking might be just what you need. My body tends to react poorly to a lot of foods and I'm weary about additives and unnecessary ingredients. So, instead of rushing out to the nearest fast food place, I like to take the time to quell those cravings in my own kitchen.

It also helps that this is a really fast and easy recipe. As someone with Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome I never know when a new health issue is going to strike. Just writing this blog post, I shifted something in my neck and couldn't move properly or carry anything for two days 😆 So, simple recipes are really my favourite!

Fluffy "Crazy Bread" / Pizza Crust Recipe:

1/4 Cup Warm Water
1 Tablespoon Sugar
1 Tablespoon Dry Active Yeast
3 Cups 00 Flour
1 Cup Hot Water
1 Teaspoon Salt
1/4 Cup Melted Butter
1 Teaspoon Garlic powder
2 Tablespoons Parmesan Cheese

Important Notes:

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F
  2. In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Set aside to foam. Healthy yeast takes about 10 minutes to get a nice foam. If this isn't happening, try again.
  3. In a large bowl, pour in 2 cups of flour and mix salt into it. Add hot water and slowly combine. I usually use a spatula for ultimate control but you can probably use a dough hook if you're using a mixer.
  4. When yeast is nice an foamy, add it to the mixture and combine. I like to let the yeast foam up a bit before I complete step 3. The hot water in step two helps continue to activate the yeast. Waiting too long between steps 3 and 4 can impact your final results.
  5. When dough is smooth and tacky, dump out onto a floured surface (this is where your third cup of flour comes in).
  6. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or grease it gently with butter or olive oil.
  7. Pinch off a small ball of dough and roll it into a nice round shape. It'll be messy to work with so add a little of that extra flour as needed. Don't be afraid to put it on your baking sheet while it's still sticky!
  8. When your baking sheet is full (approximately 9 - 12 bites per sheet), pop it in the oven.
  9. Bake for about 12-14 minutes or until they start to gold up a bit on top.
  10. Meanwhile, melt butter and add garlic powder to it.
  11. Remove bites from oven and coat with garlic butter. Sprinkle parmesan cheese (grated or dry) on top.
  12. Pop em back in the oven to golden up some more.
  13. Serve warm by themselves or with marinera sauce.

Perfect Pizza Crust

Yep, I said it! I love a chewy yet fluffy pizza crust and even better, I love one I can make really quickly. I'm talking less than an hour to put together an entire pizza, even with chopping vegetables and grating cheese.

To use this recipe for pizza dough, simply shape the dough onto your pan instead of pulling it apart into bites. If you want, you can skip the steps with the garlic butter and parmesan, but I wouldn't 😉
