The Story Behind the Scenery: How I Turn Nature Into Wearable Art
Share
It's no secret that I love the natural world. It's also no secret that I love sharing that world through my art (even the teeny tiny worlds I create in my jewelry). But how does it all come together?
Finding inspiration in the everyday
I moved to live near the ocean for a reason. It calms me. It soothes me. It helps me stay grounded and remember what's important - and just how little I am in this giant world of ours.
Now that I can peek the water from my window, walk to its shore, and drive to the beach for a day in the sun, I feel that energy around me every day. I take a moment, at least a few times a week, to be still and quiet and calm in it's presence (stillness isn't easy for me, so this is a BIG deal).
It's in those moments that I can watch the way the waves crest, the way the sun glints off the water's surface, and the way the birds circle above it.
I bring these moments, both visually and emotionally, to every ocean piece of artwork and jewelry I create.
Travelling without leaving home
Travel isn't always an easy thing for me - whether financially or physically because of my condition. BUT, I can always travel in my mind and through my artwork.
That's why it's no surprise that I travel to tropical places through the addition of Malibu vibes and other necklaces, earrings, and artwork featuring palm trees and other nods to warmer climate.
So, sometimes, I turn on my favourite Dirty Heads album, open the window to smell the ocean breeze, and imagine myself on the California coastline.
But I also love my new home, so there are many days that my watercolor art is painted while my toes are stuffed deep into the Nova Scotia sand at a local beach ❤️🏖️
